It's #fashionrevolution Week and the world is asking "who made my clothes?"

This movement, started by Fashion Revolution, is working to build awareness of the unsafe working conditions many people face in the fashion industry and highlighting companies who employ fairer, safer practices. Here at altiplano we believe in fair-trade, mutual respect, and empowerment for our artisan partners.

We'd like to introduce you to some of our makers (above). These are the talented artisans of the Mayan women's cooperative who craft our collection of hand dyed and handwoven organic bamboo scarves. Working with the co-op for over 20 years, we've seen them contribute substantially to their communities and families through the work they produce. Their contribution is not only monetary, although their fair wage contributes substantially. By working on back-strap looms, and using the traditional ikat dying technique, they are preserving their traditional culture and world class craft. They are amazing. The cooperative started from need, as a way for women widowed by the violence of the early 80's to subsist independently. It has grown to offer empowering and dignified employment to over 180 members! Your purchase of altiplano fair trade scarves has power ❤ Purchase with Purpose.
